Eau de parfum vs eau de toilette
The labels are not marketing invention; they refer to how much perfume oil is dissolved in the alcohol base. But the difference matters less than the shops would like you to believe, and more than the internet claims.
The only difference that matters is how much oil is in the bottle
Every fragrance is perfume oil dissolved in alcohol. The names on the box, eau de cologne, eau de toilette, eau de parfum, parfum, are simply labels for how concentrated that solution is. Broadly: eau de cologne sits around 2–5% oil, eau de toilette around 5–15%, eau de parfum around 15–20%, and parfum or extrait above 20%. Everything else people believe about the categories follows from that one number.
Our own bottles are blended at 35–40% fragrance oil, which is well above the usual eau de parfum range. That is why they wear closer to the skin than you might expect from the strength, a high oil load does not shout, it lasts.
What higher concentration actually buys you
More oil means more material left on your skin as the alcohol evaporates, so the fragrance survives longer, typically six to eight hours or more for an eau de parfum against three to five for an eau de toilette. It also changes the character. Because the heavier base materials are present in greater quantity, an eau de parfum tends to feel rounder, warmer and denser, while an eau de toilette reads brighter and airier. The same fragrance name released in both strengths is often reformulated, not merely diluted, so the two can smell meaningfully different.
Higher concentration does not mean louder. Projection, how far the scent travels, depends far more on which materials are used than on how many of them there are. A citrus-heavy eau de toilette can fill a room while a dense woody eau de parfum stays within arm.’s reach all day. If you want the mechanics, Fragrance Notes Explained covers it.
Which one is right for you
For Indian weather, the honest answer is that strength matters less than composition. Heat amplifies everything, so a heavy eau de parfum worn at midday in May can feel like too much regardless of how well it is made, while the same bottle is perfect at eight in the evening. If you work in air conditioning and go out afterwards, an eau de parfum is the more economical choice because you will not need to reapply. If you spend the day outdoors in humidity and prefer to go unnoticed, a lighter concentration or a lighter composition serves you better.
There is also a simple value argument. An eau de toilette bought cheaply but reapplied twice a day is not cheap. Per hour worn, a well-made eau de parfum is usually the better buy, which is why every bottle we make is one.
What the labels do not tell you
Concentration is not a quality grade. A poorly composed eau de parfum is worse than a beautifully composed eau de toilette, and the categories are conventions rather than legally enforced standards, brands label with some latitude. Nor does “pour homme” or “pour femme” mean anything chemically; those are marketing decisions about who a scent is sold to, not facts about what is in the bottle. Wear what suits you.
Common questions
Is eau de parfum always better value than eau de toilette?
Usually, per hour worn, yes. You use less and reapply less often. Per millilitre it costs more, so compare on how long a bottle actually lasts you rather than on the shelf price.
Can I wear eau de parfum during the day in Indian summer?
Yes, with a lighter hand. Two or three sprays rather than five, placed lower on the body, gives you the longevity without the intensity.
Why does the same fragrance smell different as an EDT and an EDP?
Because it is generally reformulated rather than diluted. Perfumers rebalance the top, heart and base for each concentration, so the two versions are related compositions rather than one weaker copy of the other.
What strength are AL AZIZ perfumes?
Eau de parfum, blended at 35–40% fragrance oil, in 60 ml bottles at ₹799. That concentration is at the upper end of the eau de parfum range and gives roughly eight hours of wear on most skin.
Does a stronger concentration mean it will irritate my skin?
Not by itself. Sensitivity usually comes from specific materials rather than from concentration. If you know a particular note disagrees with you, check the pyramid on the product page before buying, or ask us.
Which one we actually sell, and why
Everything we make is eau de parfum, blended at 35–40% fragrance oil. There is no eau de toilette in the range and there is not going to be one. The reason is simple arithmetic rather than snobbery: in Indian heat a lighter concentration burns off fast enough that most people re-apply at lunchtime, which means a cheaper bottle empties faster and costs more per day of actual wear.
At ₹799 for 60 ml, a stronger concentration is the honest choice. You spray less, less often. Two sprays of ours is roughly the coverage you would get from four or five of a lighter formula. If you want to test that on your own skin before committing to a full bottle, the Discovery Set gives you six 10 ml vials of the same strength.
